Strategic planning for group of development agencies
Background: A group of nine development agencies was reviewing how they had each
implemented a new model for providing business support. They wanted to
consider the extent to which they could and should provide common,
consistent services.
I was asked to do preliminary research leading to a two-day conference at which strategies could be discussed and agreed.
Results: I worked with a small team of highly experienced consultants across all
nine regions. They gathered evidence of the business models in use
highlighting examples of good practice that might be replicated in other
regions.
We produced a report that included a number of model operating
options for the agencies to consider. At the conference we facilitated a
two-day summit meeting. The options were debated and agreement on a
core business model was reached.
Project to transform publication distribution logistics for a major central government department
Background: This major, Westminster-based government department produces a wide
range and number of publications. It had awarded the distribution
contract to a leading outsourcing company. Part of the new contract
included putting the order process and stock management online.
I joined this project at a late stage when a number of critical issues had arisen.
Results: The project involved working with stakeholders, including the sponsoring
and other customer departments, the contractor, internal and external
IT professionals.
I managed the project through a complex phase during which systems
were specified and issues such as website security and accessibility
were resolved.
I supported the client and contractors in managing the TUPE process.
This included leading a project team that built and validated a database
of publications to be included in the contract.
This was a long and complex process during which a number of
unanticipated problems arose. I acted as project manager for a team
that also ensured business continuity to users including other
government departments and the public.
